The mission of the Biosystems & Agricultural Engineering Department is to seek, discover, and disseminate knowledge, enhance the production and value of agricultural products and other biological materials, improve profitability and sustainability of agricultural systems and conserve and improve natural resources. The Department also seeks to nurture in its students the ability to apply this knowledge to the benefit of the state, national, and international communities. (Mission, Strategic Plan, 1993)
The Biosystems & Agricultural Engineering Department will be recognized nationally and internationally as a program of excellence in the application of engineering, biological, and environmental principles to the problems of agriculture and natural resources. The undergraduate and graduate programs will give students an education in fundamental concepts as well as teach them to serve society as professionals. The research program will emphasize a balanced approach to fundamental and mission-oriented activities, yielding results that impact Oklahoma, the region, and the world. The extension program will extend research results to citizens in Oklahoma and the region in a manner that positively impacts the profitability and sustainability of Agriculture, protects the environment, and improves the quality of urban and rural life. (The Biosystems & Agricultural Engineering Department serves the state, region, and international communities through education, research, and extension programs and focuses on engineering for food, biological, and agricultural systems and related environmental issues. The Department strives to provide residents of Oklahoma with an opportunity to obtain an ABET accredited engineering degree in the field of Agricultural Engineering.)
