Constituents

In order to define constituent groups, some common understanding must exist of what a constituent is.

We define constituent as:

Those people who must be satisfied with the education of our students.

Constituent groups:

Students of our program - Students of our program should be primarily represented by students who have graduated and have been employed for at least a two years. We believe that students are primarily interested in whether the educational objectives we have, adequately prepare them for their eventual employment. Graduates who have been employed for several years can make this determination and can reflect on the process as well as the result.

Employers of our students – Employers of our students must be satisfied with the education of our students. Their satisfaction drives employment opportunities for our students. Employment of our students and their satisfaction with the employment they have is a primary measure of our success.

People of the State of Oklahoma - People of the State of Oklahoma through taxes support more than two thirds of the educational cost of educating students. The people of the state have some general objectives in providing that funding and are therefore member of our constituency.

Additional Constituents – Many other constituents can be identified, for example parents of our students. We believe the three groups above form the primary constituents and if our educational objectives satisfy them, then the needs of secondary constituents will also be substantially met.

Methods of Selecting Members

An ABET advisory group will be (has been) formed made-up of members of our constituents. The faculty, department head, and existing advisory group will recommend potential members to the advisory group. A departmental ABET committee appointed by the department head will review recommendations and assure significant representation from each of the constituent groups defined above.
