1.      Use direct substitution to determine the ultimate gain and frequency for the following system and recommend settings for a P controller for the system that would produce quarter amplitude decay response.

2.      The following chart was produced from a test of the chamber control system at the BIOEN lab.  The PID controller had the differential and integral actions turned OFF.  The proportional band of the controller was set at 29%.  Estimate the controller settings for Kc, Ti, and Td that would produce a quarter amplitude decay response.


3.      Use root locus analysis to examine stability in the system described by the following block diagram.  Based on the root locus diagram, will the system ever:   1) oscillate?  2) become instable?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

4.      A system using a proportional only controller with a proportional gain of 10 has the following closed loop response to a step in setpoint.  Estimate the ultimate proportional gain of the controller and propose settings for a PID controller.
